Ankle Sprain-Most common Injury for Active individual and Athletes.


Ankle sprain is Most common injury in active individuals and athletes.
Estimated 61 Ankle sprains/10000 people every Year and Accounting 30% of sports injury.
Severity of Ankle Sprain kept in three Categories.

Grade-1-
✓Streching of ligament
✓ limited dysfunction
✓pointed Tenderness
✓No laxity
✓Able to bear full body weight,
✓minimal or No edema.

Grade-2
✓Partial tearing of ligaments, ✓pointed or Diffuse Tenderness
✓ moderate Dysfunction
✓pain in full weight Bearing,may required support for ambulation
✓mild to moderate Edema

Grade-3

✓substantial tearing of ligaments, ✓pointed or diffuse Tenderness
✓ moderate to severe Dysfunction, ✓moderate to severe Laxity
✓Limited to no ability for full weight Bearing
✓Severe Edema

Self examination-If you are Not able to take full body weight or there is diffuse swelling arround ankle or pain increases while moving ankle.

1 Acute stage

Use PRICE Method.
P- prevention from further injury
R-Rest
I-Ice
C-compression
E-elevation
In this stage My physio physiotherapist work on to prevent further damage through PRICE Method to reduce pain and swelling and increase Range of Motion, flexibility or to re-establish muscle strength, coordination, agility,functional skills, endurance and Power With various type of therapy method involves Electrotherapy ,Manual therapy Mobilisation, stretching, Kinesio Taping,Dry needling, strengthening and endurance Exercises.


2.Sub Acute stage

in this stage My Physio physiotherapist works on to minimise pain and inflammation and re-establish neuro muscular control, Proprioception, agility, coordination and improve overall body conditioning including soft tissue release,towel curls,Marble pick ups,PNF Exercises, stationary Cycling etc.

3 .Maturation Stage

In this stage no sign and symptoms of inflammation and swelling my physio physiotherapist works on to improve muscle strength endurance,power, Agility, improve functional skills like jogging, running or sports special exercise to return in sports,including Proprioception exercises, theraband strengthening exercises,Lunges,squats,Balance board Exercises,leg press Exercises, plyometrics etc.
