Causes:
Overuse of wrist
Associated with pregnancy
Rheumatoid Diseases
Direct injury to your wrist or Tendon

Risk factors for De Quervain's are:

Age: ages  between of 30 and 50
Sex: common in women.
Pregnancy: Associated with pregnancy.
Baby care. Lifting your child repeatedly involves using your thumbs as leverage and may also be associated with the condition.
Jobs or hobbies or work that includes continue using mobile phone chatting that involve repetitive thumb ,hand and wrist motions.

Symptoms

  1. Pain present at base of  thumb
  2. Swelling near  and around the base of thumb
  3. Difficulty in thumb movement and wrist
  4. Pain increases in activity includes grasping, pinching, wringing, fisting

If the condition goes too long without treatment, the pain may spread further into your thumb, back into your forearm or both. Pinching, grasping and other movements of your thumb and wrist aggravate the pain.

1.COLD/ICE APPLICATION  provides relief.Place the cold pack  or ICE over the affected part for 10-15 minutes, 2 to 4 times a day to reduce swelling.
2.REST-avoid repetitive activity of wrist and thumb including grasping, pinching, wringing, fisting
3.COMPRESSION OR STABILIZE YOUR JOINT-my physio physiotherapist will use kinesio taping or thumb splint to protect or stabilize your joint.
